OUR MISSION STATEMENT

The Family of St. John Francis Regis Catholic Parish and Academy is committed to welcoming and serving one another and our community.  Embracing the richness of our diversity, we embody the Spirit of God through vibrant worship, careful stewardship, active fellowship, quality Catholic education, and by recognizing the dignity of all persons as members of the Body of Christ.

Parish Council: 

Provide structure, facilities, and leadership to inspire a strong Catholic community spirit.  This council is comprised of visionary leaders who strive to help focus the mission and identity of our parish and school community through collaboration with parish and school membership.

Ensure that Catholics of all ages have opportunities to grow in faith, love, and stewardship.

Form prayerful, faith-filled disciples committed to growing our parish by spreading the Gospel by word, witness, action, and invitation (Evangelization). 

Lead parishioners into ministry and equip them with the skills and opportunities they need to succeed in friendships both within and outside of the parish that draw people closer to God (invest and invite through Ministry Fair database). 

Draw unchurched and de-churched people into the parish and school community, growing a sense of unity among diverse peoples (the Body of Christ) to support our parish and school community’s mission.

Encourage prayer including full and active participation in the Eucharist and other sacraments, where practical.

Discern ways to highlight the diversity of our parish through new ministries and events, gain new members.

Increase participation in weekly scripture studies.

Discern ways to develop a comprehensive youth ministry, attracting young adults to lead.

Respond to the needs of parish members by developing new ministries.

Provide faith formation resources to reach out to new members and those interested in the Catholic faith.

Ensure that catechists in the School of Religion, RCIA, and other programs have opportunities for continuing education.

Ensure quality of programs and increase parishioner involvement.  

Consider a monthly Brunch / Pancake Breakfast.

v Provide quality music at weekend masses and continue efforts to develop a variety of music types.

v Provide on-going training and formation programs for all involved in prayer and liturgy.

v Work with Evangelization and Parish Life Council to provide the community with periodic speakers and Missions.

v Increase choir participation (2 more new singers or instrumentalist, by year end).

v Purchase new hymnals by year end of 2019.

v Develop new training program for greeters/ushers to address increased security concerns.

v Evaluate the number of ministers needed to distribute communion at weekend masses, possibly. 

      adjusting the number of ministers and the directional flow of communicants by Advent 2019. 

v Add one or two more members to our Worship Council by year end.

v Provide one Retreat or Mission before Easter 2020.

Social Services:

Increase involvement in parish outreach ministries to the poor (staffing St. James Food Kitchen, Meatloaf Monday, food collection weekends and participating in the Community Assistance Council).

Provide education, advocacy opportunities, and activities around Pro-Life and Respect Life issues, Mother’s Refuge.

Raise awareness of our sister parish in Ita Maura, El Salvador and develop future service opportunities.

Continue to broaden and deepen our connections with the neighborhood, other area churches, and other community organizations, such as the Little Sisters of the Poor, St. Michael the Archangel High School, the Community of the Good Shepherd, and the Village at Carroll Park (Grandview) Nursing Home.

Prison ministry – Support of the God Squad and Bibles to prisons drives.

Outreach to immigrants through support of English as a second language (ESL) program and communicate diocesan immigration goals to parish by attending diocesan immigration meetings.

Provide Ministry Leaders a list of new or interested parishioners before Christmas and encourage them to contact and invite them to get involved.

Provide families a printout of their involvement ahead of the Ministry Fair.

Improve awareness of Stewardship message through education resources, the “Stewardship Corner” and by highlighting ministries throughout the year.

Continue bulletin ministry updates and highlight various ministries after weekend Masses.

Include brief description of ministries in welcome baskets and at the kiosk.

Promote generous giving of time, talent, and treasure.

Increase number of time and talent and treasure forms turned in by 10%.
